Overview
Sized Right, Installed Clean
A furnace that's the wrong size or sloppily installed will short-cycle, run up your bills, and wear out early — no matter how good the equipment is. Mark Johnson & Sons has installed heating systems the right way across North Louisiana since 1997: a real load calculation for your home, honest efficiency options, and a clean, code-compliant install by the licensed crew you already trust for plumbing. We install and service Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, York, American Standard, Bryant, and Amana.
We'll walk you through the repair-versus-replace math and the fuel and efficiency choices, then match the system to your home and budget — not to a commission. We remove and haul off the old unit, inspect the venting and ductwork, set the new one, and leave the job site clean, with permits pulled and the manufacturer's warranty registered so your coverage starts the day we finish.
Gas, electric, or heat pump
Most North Louisiana homes on natural gas replace a gas furnace with a gas furnace — it's the cheapest heat per BTU in a hard freeze. All-electric homes go with an electric furnace or, increasingly, a heat pump that both heats and cools and runs 2–3x more efficiently in our mild winters. We size and quote whichever fits your fuel, ductwork, and budget, and we'll tell you straight when a heat pump is the better long-term play.
Efficiency: 80% vs. 95%+ AFUE
A standard 80% AFUE furnace turns 80 cents of every gas dollar into heat; a high-efficiency 95%+ condensing model captures nearly all of it but costs more up front and needs PVC venting and a condensate drain. Because our winters are short, the payback on top-tier efficiency is slower here than up north — for many homes a solid mid-efficiency unit is the sweet spot. We run the honest numbers so you decide with real figures.
Right-sizing with a load calculation
We measure square footage, insulation, windows, and ductwork and run an actual heat-load calculation — never just matching the old box's number. An oversized furnace short-cycles and wastes gas; an undersized one never keeps up on the coldest nights. Right-sizing is the single biggest factor in comfort, bills, and how long the equipment lasts.
Every install is quoted flat-rate before we start, financing is available so a failed furnace doesn't wreck the month, and your new system is covered by our Classic Membership — annual tune-ups keep the manufacturer's warranty valid.

Warning signs
Signs it's time to replace, not repair
A few clear signals that a new furnace is the smarter money than another repair.
Furnace is 15+ years old and needing repairs more often
A repair quote lands over a third of replacement cost
Cracked heat exchanger or a repeat safety lockout
Rooms never heat evenly no matter the thermostat setting
Heating bills keep climbing as efficiency drops
Loud operation, frequent short cycling, or constant repairs
Yellow or sooty burner flame instead of steady blue
The furnace can't keep up on the coldest nights

Gas furnace vs. electric furnace vs. heat pump
Three ways to heat a North Louisiana home. The right one comes down to whether you have gas service, how mild your winters run, and whether you also want cooling from the same system.
| Feature | Gas furnace | Electric furnace | Heat pump |
|---|---|---|---|
| Installed cost | $3,800 – $8,500 | $2,800 – $5,500 | $6,500 – $12,000 |
| How it heats | Burns natural gas | Electric resistance coils | Moves heat with refrigerant |
| Also cools? | No — heating only | No — heating only | Yes — heats and cools |
| Operating cost here | Low (cheap gas) | Highest per BTU | Lowest — 2–3x efficient |
| Best for | Homes with gas service | All-electric homes, no gas | Mild winters, all-electric comfort |
| Lifespan | 15 to 20 years | 20 to 30 years | 12 to 15 years |
FAQ
Furnace Installation FAQs
The right way is a load calculation — we measure your home's square footage, insulation, windows, and layout to size the furnace to your actual heat loss. An oversized furnace short-cycles and wastes gas; an undersized one never keeps up. We never just match the old unit's number.
