5 Plumbing Myths Debunked

A
plumbing system is one of the most important elements of a home. A plumbing system that
does not function efficiently is something that can affect the entire
make up of a home. Here are five plumbing myths that everyone needs to
understand are incorrect and cause long term damage to a plumbing system
in a home.

Grease is not Important

One huge myth is that it is OK to put grease down a drain and is not an
important element to worry about. Over time, grease will harden and clog
up various drains in a home. Although the effects will not be immediately
seen in a home, over time this can cause an extensive amount of damage.

Instead of pouring hot grease down a drain, wipe it out of a pan and throw
it in the trash or simply pour it in to a container to use at a different time.

Maintenance Is Not Important

Another big plumbing myth is that maintenance is not important to maintaining
a home’s plumbing system. Just like any other system in a home, a
plumbing system works best and for the longest amount of time when it
is properly maintained over time. When this is avoided, costly repairs
will creep up and cost the home owner must more in time and money than
maintenance would have.

Citrus Fruits are best for Cleaning

Another myth is that citrus fruits are good for cleaning out a garbage
disposal because they make it smell better. In reality, this is not the
case and the acid from the fruit can actually cause corrosion. Over time,
this will actually do more harm than good on a plumbing system and should
be avoided in almost every case.

Paper Towels Can Be FlushedRuston Plumbing Myths

One of the biggest mistakes that people make is flushing items like paper
towels. Although they technically can be flushed, this does not mean that
they should be as it can cause more damage over the long term on a plumbing system.

More People in a Home is not a Worry

Many people believe that their homes can easily handle more people and
the plumbing that comes with it. However, if a person plans on having
more people than normal at their home, it is important to plan out the
plumbing and make sure everything is working properly before any issues occur.
